About Us

First of all, welcome to Carmelle's Tea Room! We are delighted to have you visit us and learn about our history.

In The Beginning
Carmelle's Tea Room first started off as the dream of owner Carmelle Campbell. After years of visiting Tea Rooms and Bed & Breakfasts across the United States, an opportunity presented itself when a room became available in the historic Reed Opera House in Salem, Oregon.

With the loving support of family and friends, Carmelle decided this was the perfect place to bring quality Tea Time back to Salem. After the decision had been made, Carmelle went to work designing her first restaurant from the bottom up.

The room was literally a blank canvas. Everything from the appliances, to the paint, to the light fixtures had to be brought in. On top of that, she needed to determine what sorts of foods to serve! Opening a restaurant requires a lot of careful thought and hard determination, but after a few months she and her crew (consisting of only her husband, son and close family friend) finally opened on September 21, 2013, during the 143rd Birthday celebration of the Reed Opera House.

Decorated for Christmas
Since then we have worked on making the experience as fun as it can be! We have hosted events, thrown parties, and had a blast meeting with all sorts of people who enjoy the magic of a warm cup of tea. But we are not through yet! Still to come is our ever expanding menu (with new selections every week!), incorporating gluten-free items, selling loose-leaf tea bags, and getting the word out to all of the Tea Lovers of the Willamette Valley. We are excited to have you join us!
